Time for Courage

Courage.  Commitment.

Two concepts I have been pondering about a lot lately....perhaps because I have felt severely lacking in both as of late.

For today, I'm going to focus on the first.

I came across an article.  Not by chance.  I went looking for it.  It was summarized to me a few days ago and I wanted a chance to read it in it's entirety.

Of courage, the author, Pres. Thomas S. Monson, writes:
"There will be times when you will be frightened and discouraged.  You may feel that you are defeated.  The odds of obtaining victory may appear overwhelming.  At times you may feel like David trying to fight Goliath.  But remember--David did win!
Courage is required to make an initial thrust toward one's coveted goal, but even greater courage is called for when one stumbles and must make a second effort to achieve." (bold added)
and then he says:

Well, today is my "tomorrow".

I've let myself go far too long wishing I could be in the same place (spiritually, mentally, and physically) I was last spring, when the cover of depressive darkness was lifted and replaced with happiness (true happiness), ambition and HOPE.

I've wished for it....longed for it....craved it, yet done very little to fight for it.  Instead I've cowered in fear, doubt and disappointment.

Well, it's time to let it go.

The sun is out today (literally and figuratively) and I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7)
"Be not afraid...for the Lord thy God is with thee." (Deuteronomy 20:1
I believe this with all my heart.  And I'm even starting to FEEL it there again too.

You'll get there! If someone were to ask me to sum up what I thought about you in one word, it would be HOPE. That shouldn't be very surprising to you :) When I get into my depths of despair, hope is the first thing that seems to go, but yours never seems to fail. If you need a lecture, here it is: You're a mom of FOUR, who, every day, deals with selflessness and (I can imagine) self control and patience. These things alone ground you very firmly to this world. But you even go beyond that to hold onto your spirituality and love for God and Jesus, which places you among the Heaven's as well. You might feel lost, but to a person who is looking from the outside in (ie, to me) , you seem to be exactly where you need to be.

You are amazing Melanie! Thanks for sharing these quotes. I think as a mom we constantly need these reminders to get up and try again and again and again. Life can be monotonous and overwhelming and we can overcome if we try and believe in ourselves and our Father in Heaven. Keep up the good work, girl!

You *do* have courage!! From what I have seen... you consistently manage to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and continue moving forward! I see you like the runner in this video... not just a winner - but someone who doesn't give up!!

Kristen...it is so, isn't it. It's a good thing our little ones are ADORABLE...otherwise it would be hard to move on.

"Messy" (I love calling you that...ha ha),

That video was AWESOME! And I am honored that you would compare me to her. Her drive and determination is definitely something to aspire too. Thank you so much for sharing that!

Melanie, Thank you for sharing this. I love where he says that courage is being able to say, I'll try again tomorrow.

I needed to hear this. I appreciate you taking your experiences and sharing them with others.

Oh, I got an email with your comment on my latest post, but when I opened up the blog on my computer, it wasn't there. I don't know what happened, but thank you for supporting me!
